A horrifying incident took place at Pune’s Swargate bus depot early Wednesday morning when a 26-year-old woman waiting for her bus was raped inside a stationary Shivshahi bus. The police have identified the suspect and launched a massive manhunt to apprehend him.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Smartana Patil, the incident occurred around 5 AM when the woman, who was on her way to Phaltan, was waiting at the depot for her bus. The accused, identified as Dattatray Ramdas Gade, allegedly lured her into a state transport corporation’s Shivshahi bus parked in the depot. Once inside, he followed her and sexually assaulted her.
Following the attack, the traumatized victim immediately approached the police to report the crime. Investigators promptly reviewed CCTV footage from the bus depot and were able to identify the accused. Authorities have since formed eight police teams to track him down.
The Pune Police have assured that they are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to bring the accused to justice. "We are working on all leads and hope to arrest the suspect soon," said an officer involved in the investigation.
The incident has once again raised concerns about security at transport hubs, especially for women traveling alone during odd hours. Commuters and activists are urging authorities to strengthen surveillance and ensure better safety measures at bus depots across the city.
As the investigation continues, police have urged anyone with relevant information about the suspect’s whereabouts to come forward. They have also assured the victim full support and legal assistance in her pursuit of justice.
